If you’ve seen one photo of the Andamans, it was almost certainly Havelock — now officially Swaraj Dweep. This is the island of powder-white sand, water in a dozen shades of blue, and Radhanagar Beach, which TIME magazine famously ranked the best beach in Asia. We run trips here every single week, so we know which stretch of Elephant Beach the reef is healthiest on and exactly when the tide’s right for the bioluminescence kayak.
Give Havelock the biggest slice of your holiday — two nights minimum, three if you’re diving. It’s a big island by Andaman standards, so you’ll want a scooter or a cab to move between Radhanagar in the west, the jetty and dive centres in the north, and the quiet sunrise beaches in the south. Whatever you’re here for — a honeymoon, your first scuba dive, or just to do nothing on the sand — this is where it happens.

The one on every postcard — a wide arc of white sand ranked among Asia’s best. Come for the swim in the afternoon and stay for a sunset that turns the whole bay gold. No water sports here, just pure beach.

Havelock’s activity hub, reached by a short boat or a jungle walk. Snorkelling, sea walking and beginner scuba all happen here over a shallow, colourful reef — the best spot on the island for a first look underwater.

Bioluminescence Kayaking
On a moonless night, paddle the mangroves and watch the water light up electric-blue with every stroke. A guided, small-group kayak trip that people remember long after the beaches blur together. Tide- and moon-dependent — we time it right.

Kalapathar Beach
On the island’s east coast, framed by black rocks and jungle. Quieter than Radhanagar and gorgeous at sunrise — a scenic drive along the coastal road makes the trip half the fun.

GETTING THERE

Havelock is reached only by sea — and the ferry is part of the adventure. Here’s how the crossing works, and how we make sure you’re on the right boat with a confirmed seat.
Book ferries early: private catamaran seats sell out days ahead in peak season (Nov–Feb). As part of your package we reserve them the moment your dates are locked.

Makruzz and Nautika run air-conditioned high-speed ferries from Port Blair to Havelock — the comfortable, reliable choice, with assigned seating.
Government ferry (budget)
The state boats are far cheaper and take a little longer. Great for budget trips — seats are limited and go fast, so we book ahead.
Getting around the island
Havelock is spread out. We arrange a private cab, or you can rent a scooter — the coastal drive to Radhanagar and Kalapathar is a highlight in itself.
Onward to Neil Island
From Havelock, Neil (Shaheed Dweep) is just a 45-minute ferry hop — the easiest add-on if you want a quieter finish to your trip.

How do I get to Havelock from Port Blair?
By ferry only — there’s no airport on Havelock. Private air-conditioned catamarans (Makruzz, Nautika) make the crossing in about 2.5 hours, and cheaper government ferries take a little longer. All leave from Port Blair’s Haddo / Phoenix Bay jetties. Morning departures are the most popular and sell out fast in peak season, so we lock your seats in advance as part of the package.
How many days should I spend on Havelock?
Two nights is the minimum to enjoy Radhanagar, Elephant Beach and a sunset without rushing. Add a third night if you want to scuba dive, do the bioluminescence kayak, or simply slow down. Divers aiming for a certification course should plan three to four nights on the island.
Which Havelock beach is the best?
Radhanagar (Beach No. 7) is the famous one — the widest, whitest sand and the best sunset, but no water sports. Elephant Beach is the place for snorkelling and diving over live coral. Kalapathar is quiet and lovely at sunrise, and Vijaynagar (Beach No. 5) is the calm, resort-lined stretch where most stays are based. We’ll fit the right mix into your days.
